Sharapova "thrilled" with golden chance

Maria Sharapova has revealed that she is "thrilled" to have the opportunity to win a gold medal at the Olympic Games.

The Russian will face American Serena Williams in the women's singles final on Wimbledon's Centre Court today as both players look to complete the career Grand Slam.

"Well it's incredible, not only to be part of this event and be an Olympian, but to put yourself in with an opportunity to go for gold. It's a really nice feeling," Sharapova told reporters.

"I've been really fortunate to win all the Grand Slams and obviously this is my first Olympics so I'm just thrilled to be in the finals."

The French Open champion, who is appearing at her first Games, goes into the match having won just two of her eight encounters with Williams.
