Maria Kirilenko through in Toronto

Maria Kirilenko has reached round two of the Rogers Cup in Toronto with a straight-sets victory over Croatian qualifier Petra Martic.

The Russian world number 16 squandered two break points early in the opening set, but she broke twice late on to close it out 6-2.

It was more straightforward for the French Open quarter-finalist in the second, as she came through 6-1 with just over an hour on the clock.

Kirilenko will meet either France's Alize Cornet or fellow Russian Elena Vesnina for a place in the third round.
