Berdych squeezes past Benneteau in Toronto

Fourth seed Tomas Berdych has squeezed into the third round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto with a three-set victory over France's Julien Benneteau.

With neither player dropping a game in the opening set, Benneteau eventually came through a mammoth tie-break 12-10 to take the initiative.

Czech Berdych only needed a single break in the second to win 6-4 and level the match.

The former Wimbledon finalist then claimed the deciding set 6-4 to book his place in the next round.

Berdych will meet either Richard Gasquet or Mikhail Kukushkin for a quarter-final berth.
