Bartoli crashes out of Rogers Cup

Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli was forced to retire from her Rogers Cup match against Magdalena Rybarikova this evening, ending her progress in the tournament.

The Frenchwoman struck first in the opening set when she broke the Slovak at the first attempt.

A mammoth third game followed, with Rybarikova eventually breaking back after an incredible eight deuces.

The world number 39 moved closer to an upset when she broke Bartoli again in the seventh game of the set, but the number seven seed prevented her from serving out the match, breaking back to force a tie-break.

Rybarikova eventually took the tie-break 7-5 to clinch the opening set before Bartoli was forced to retire after just one game of the second set, which was won by Rybarikova.

The Slovak will now go on to face Serena Williams in the next round after she comfortably saw off Kirsten Flipkens.
