Chinese wildcard Zhang Shuai has won her first WTA singles title by beating American qualifier Vania King in straight sets in the final of the Guangzhou Open.

With the home crowd behind her, Zhang, who is ranked 112th in the world, took control of the match by winning a first-set tie-break 7-1.

Momentum then continued with the 24-year-old, as she raced to victory by taking the second set 6-1.

Prior to Zhang, Zi Yan, who triumphed in 2005, was the last Chinese player to win the Guangzhou Open.
