Mikhail Youzhny knocks out Ernests Gulbis in Shanghai Masters first round

Mikhail Youzhny has sent Ernests Gulbis out of the Shanghai Masters with a 6-4 6-1 victory in the first round.

The opening set was a close affair between the two competitors as games went by the way of serve, but Youzhny struck first with a break.

After taking a one-set lead in China, Youzhny began to dominate proceedings by grabbing an early break in second set.

Gulbis struggled to launch a comeback on the hard court and could only post one game on the board as he relinquished the set and the match.
