Lucie Safarova causes Caroline Wozniacki upset in Sydney

Caroline Wozniacki is knocked out of the Sydney International by Lucie Safarova, who reaches the quarter-finals with a straight-sets victory.

Caroline Wozniacki has failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Sydney International after losing 4-6 6-7(7-9) to Lucie Safarova in the second round of the tournament.

The Danish pro, who recently got engaged to former world number one golfer Rory McIlroy, lost a vital break of serve in the opening set.

The 23-year-old was forced to respond after going a set down and the sixth seed did just that by pushing the second to a tie-break.

Despite taking a three-point lead in the decider, Wozniacki relinquished her advantage and lost the tie-break 9-7, resulting in Safavora's progression into the final eight.
