Serena Williams eases into Madrid Open semi-finals with straight-sets win

Serena Williams breezes past Carla Suarez Navarro in straight sets to claim a place in the semi-finals of the Madrid Open.

World number one Serena Williams has kept her Madrid Open title hopes alive by beating Carla Suarez Navarro 6-1 6-3. .

The Spaniard tried to hold firm by initially saving two break points, but Williams was eventually able to convert and snatch a swift 2-0 advantage.

Williams continued to knock on the door and battled her way to a double break, which was all that was required to wrap up the first set.

Suarez Navarro struggled to create opportunities for a comeback as Williams struck early yet again to go a break up.

It was a relatively comfortable set for Williams as she rounded the match off to book a place in the final four.
