Britain's Heather Watson knocked out in first round of Wuhan Open

Britain's Heather Watson is ousted by Jelena Jankovic in the first round of the Wuhan Open in China.

Great Britain's Heather Watson has failed to progress past the first round of the Wuhan Open after suffering a 3-6 6-2 3-6 defeat to Jelena Jankovic in China.

The 23-year-old started strongly by breaking her opponent at the first time of asking, but she crumbled from that moment on by losing serve three times.

After dropping the first set, Watson came out fighting in the second by immediately grabbing a double break, which was enough to draw level on the hard court.

With it all to play for in the third and final set, Jankovic administered the first blow by going a break up, and she followed that up with a second break, leaving Watson with a mountain to climb.

The Brit halted Jankovic's progress by preventing match point, and then delayed her opponent further by breaking serve, but the Serbian pro eventually saw out the set to book her place in the second round.
