Heather Watson and Laura Robson progress in Japan Open

Heather Watson has defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues to progress through to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open.

Watson won 6-7 6-2 6-3 to upset the sixth seed and qualify for the last eight, where she will now play France's Pauline Parmentier.

She was joined in the quarter-finals by British compatriot Laura Robson, who defeated Zhou Yi-Miao in straight sets.

Robson's 6-4 6-4 victory has set up a last-eight match with Chang Kai-Chen.
