Jo-Wilfried Tsonga into round two

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has booked his spot in the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships following a 6-2 6-4 victory over Victor Hanescu on Tuesday.

The Frenchman immediately took control of the first set, breaking his Romanian opponent twice in quick succession before holding to move 4-0 ahead.

Hanescu secured his first hold at 0-4, but could not respond as Tsonga took the first set 6-2 in just over 31 minutes of tennis.

Both exchanged breaks of serve in the opening games of the second set, but another break for Tsonga at 1-1 allowed the Frenchman to take control.

Hanescu recovered to hold three times in a row, but Tsonga served it out to take the second 6-4 and book his spot in round two in the process.
