Edmund sets up Djokovic clash in Madrid

Kyle Edmund has advanced through to the second round of the Madrid Masters with a straight-sets win over Daniil Medvedev.

The British number one had been a late arrival in Spain due to success in the doubles alongside Cameron Norrie in Estoril last week, but the 23-year-old had recovered sufficiently to beat Medvedev by a 6-4 6-0 scoreline.

The first set was fiercely contested but with Medvedev squandering five opportunities to break serve, a solitary strike from Edmund was enough to seal an advantage.

Medvedev struggled on serve during the second, winning just five points behind his own delivery, and Edmund wrapped up a bagel set to win his first ever match at the tournament.

Edmund now faces former world number one Novak Djokovic on Wednesday.
