Record-breaking Ivo Karlovic powers past Tomas Berdych in Halle

Ivo Karlovic booms down a record 45 aces during his three-set quarter-final victory over Tomas Berdych at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle.

Ivo Karlovic served a record number of aces in a three-set match during his surprise quarter-final victory over Tomas Berdych at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle this afternoon.

The Croatian boomed down 45 aces in a 7-5 6-7 6-3 win over the third seed to beat his own previous record of 44 that he shared with Mark Philippoussis.

Karlovic is likely to face top seed Roger Federer, who faces Florian Mayer later today, in the semi-finals.

His achievement follows the new women's record of 27 aces that Sabine Lisicki set earlier this week.
