Albert Ramos does just enough to edge American veteran James Blake in three sets to progress at the Miami Masters.

Albert Ramos has held his nerve to knock out home favourite James Blake and progress to the last 16 at the Miami Masters.

The Spaniard got the better of a tight opening set 6-4 thanks to a more consistent effort on serve.

Blake only managed to get 46% of his first serves in during the first set but quickly responded with a series of baseline winners.

A thumping backhand winner kept the American veteran alive, earning a double break which sent the match into a deciding set.

Neither player gave an inch early in the third as both men held serve in five consecutive games.

With the pressure on, Blake finally wilted, dropping serve with relative ease just when it mattered most.

Ramos pounded to claim the crucial break and win a tight encounter 6-4 2-6 7-5, setting up a fourth-round clash with Jurgen Melzer.
