Kei Nishikori sees off Roberto Bautista Agut

Kei Nishikori claims a 6-3 6-3 win over Roberto Bautista Agut to book his place in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open.

Kei Nishikori booked his place in the quarter-finals of the Madrid Open by beating Roberto Bautista Agut 6-3 6-3 this evening.

The Japanese took just over an hour to win the third-round tie and set up a meeting in the last eight against David Ferrer.

Nishikori broke his opponent in the third game of the first set and held his serve to comfortably establish the lead.

In the second set, both players held their serve until the eighth match, when Nishikori broke the Spaniard and went 5-3 up.

He managed to claim victory in the final game to take the match and keep alive his hopes of returning to the final of the tournament.
