Florian Mayer fights back to beat Andy Murray in Qatar Open

Andy Murray is dumped out of the Qatar Open after losing 3-6 6-4 6-2 to Germany's Florian Mayer in the second round.

Andy Murray has been dumped out of the Qatar Open after losing to Florian Mayer in the second round.

The British number one, playing in his first Tour event since undergoing back surgery in September, was beaten 3-6 6-4 6-2 in just under two hours by German Mayer.

Murray broke Mayer twice to win the first set, in which the Scot won 18 of 25 points behind his own serve. However, the Wimbledon champion's serve deteriorated as the match went on and he won just 53% of service points in sets two and three.

Mayer will face Victor Hanescu in round three, after the Romanian caused another upset by beating eighth seed Fernando Verdasco 4-6 7-6 6-2.
