Konta overcomes world number two Halep

Johanna Konta continued her recent positive form courtesy of a 6-3 3-6 7-5 victory over Simona Halep at the Wuhan Open earlier today.

It appeared that the Brit was about to head out of the tournament when she trailed the world number two 5-1 in the final set.

However, she rallied to win the next six games in a row to secure her place in the quarter-finals, where she will take on seven-time Grand Slam winner Venus Williams.

"It was a very tough match. She played at an unbelievable level," the 24-year-old said during a post-match interview.

"I was really happy I was able to take a few of the chances I created. I feel humbled that I get the chance to come back tomorrow to compete again."

Konta, who has won 21 of her last 22 matches, is now just the third British woman after Virginia Wade and Sue Barker to have beaten a player ranked in the world's top three.
