Johanna Konta makes winning start in Stanford

Johanna Konta has eased past Julia Boserup to reach the Bank of the West Classic third round.

The British number one was competing in her first singles match since losing in the Wimbledon second round but she had little problem in seeing off the American wildcard.

Konta controlled the opening stages of the match as she moved closer to the next round and it was one-way traffic in the second as she registered a 6-3 6-1 win over the world number 144.

The third seed will now face Zheng Saisai for a place in the quarter-finals.
