Johanna Konta has been eliminated from the Madrid Open at the second-round stage after losing out to Bernarda Pera.
Konta has endured a disappointing year on the WTA Tour and the British number one's struggles continued as she suffered a 6-4 6-3 defeat.
Pera registered a surprise win over Konta at the Australian Open but the American held the advantage throughout this contest, starting with an early break of serve.
The early stages of the second were hotly contested but Pera maintained the edge and struck twice on Konta's serve to claim victory in one hour and 42 minutes.
Konta faces a battle to remain in the top 32 of the world rankings past Wimbledon and as of Tuesday night, the 26-year-old was only placed at 39th spot for 2018.
