Ivo Karlovic wins battle of big servers in Doha, knocks out Tomas Berdych

Karlovic ousts Berdych in Doha

Ivo Karlovic caused an upset in the first round of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open by knocking out Czech fourth seed Tomas Berdych in two tie-break sets.

There wasn't a single break of serve all game, but Karlovic had the edge in both tie-breakers, clinching them 9-7 and 7-4 to complete victory in one hour and 47 minutes.

The two men were serving so well that there was just a single break point in the whole match. It was also a set point for Karlovic at 5-4 in the first set, but he could not take it.

It did not end up costing the Croatian as he came out on top in both tie-breakers to reach round two in Doha.
