Simona Halep beats Lara Arruabarrena to reach Madrid Open third round

Simona Halep has booked her place into the third round of the Madrid Open with a 6-4 6-4 victory over Lara Arruabarrena.

The fourth seed stormed to a comfortable lead in the first set, but Arruabarrena fought back to close down the gap by grabbing a break of her own.

However, it wasn't enough as Halep clinched the set and carried her strength into the second by unleashing seven aces on the court.

For Arruabarrena, after losing another service game, she struggled to create any break point chances for herself, while Halep was able to stay on top and grab the win.
