Federer books semi-final spot

Roger Federer has advanced to the semi-finals of the Rome Masters with a straight-sets victory over Jerzy Janowicz.

The Swiss will now play Benoit Paire for a place in the final after ousting the Pole 6-4 7-6[2] in one hour and 25 minutes.

Federer served seven aces and needed just the one break point on his way to taking the first set, but went a break down early in the second.

Janowicz served to force a deciding set at 5-4, but was unable to see it out. He dropped serve and the set went to a tie-break, which the world number three dominated 7-2.

The 31-year-old is looking to win the tournament for the first time.
