Kyle Edmund wins first qualifier at China Open

British number two Kyle Edmund beats Pablo Andujar in the opening qualifying round of the China Open.

Kyle Edmund has moved closer to a place in the main draw of the China Open after beating Pablo Andujar in the first qualifying round.

The British number two is looking to end the 2016 season on a high after moving up to 54th in the world rankings, and he impressed during a 6-3 6-2 win over the experienced Spaniard.

The 21-year-old recorded three breaks of serve during the match but saving all 12 of Andujar's opportunities on his own serve proved vital as he came through in 86 minutes.

Edmund will now play Russia's Evgeny Donskoy for a place in the first round, where he will hope to join world number two Andy Murray.

His British compatriot has been drawn against Andreas Seppi in the last 32.
