Edmund overcomes Jaziri in Rome first round

Kyle Edmund has progressed through to the second round of the Rome Masters with a hard-fought win over Malek Jaziri.

The British number one has had less than 72 hours' rest since defeat in the quarter-finals in Madrid, but the 23-year-old was able to battle past the qualifier by a 6-3 3-6 6-3 scoreline.

Edmund is now ranked in the top 20 of the ATP world rankings and he showed his class in striking once and holding off break points for Jaziri to take the opener.

The experienced Tunisian replicated Edmund's efforts in the second to force a decider, but Edmund broke early in the third before eventually sealing victory in just over two hours and five minutes.

Edmund will play either Lucas Pouille or Andreas Seppi in the last 32.
