Dan Evans has registered a straight-sets win over Portugal's Gastao Elias to progress through to the second round of the Winston-Salem Open.
The British number one is competing in his final tournament ahead of the US Open and he continued his recent good form with a 6-3 7-6 victory over a player ranked one place below him in the world rankings.
Evans - who was 60th in the ATP standings ahead of this event - needed just one break of serve to take the opener but he soon found himself 3-0 down at the start of the second.
However, the Birmingham-based hitter recovered to take the set into a tie-break and he took that 7-3 to move through to a clash with top seed Richard Gasquet.
