British number two Aljaz Bedene ousted by Fabio Fognini in German Open quarters

British number two Aljaz Bedene loses in straight sets to Fabio Fognini in the quarter-finals of the German Open.

British number two Aljaz Bedene has been knocked out of the German Open at the quarter-final stage following a 6-4 7-5 defeat to Fabio Fognini in Hamburg.

The Brit started strongly by breaking serve early in the first set, but his Italian opponent responded instantly with a break point of his own.

Fognini snatched serve once again before easing his way to a one-set lead, but it was a tighter affair in the second set.

Games went by way of serve until Fognini went a crucial break up to make it 6-5, and comfortably served for the match.
