Serena Williams named WTA Tour Player of the Year

Serena Williams has been named the WTA Tour Player of the Year for the fourth time in her career.

The 31-year-old has been recognised for winning Wimbledon, the US Open and gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Williams also won the WTA Tour Championships in Istanbul towards the end of October.

The American, who has clinched a total of 30 Grand Slam titles in her career, finished third in the WTA rankings behind Victoria Azarenka and Maria Sharapova this year.

Williams won the WTA award in 2002, 2008 and 2009.
