Ward to make late bid to claim Davis Cup spot

James Ward will attempt to end his nine-match losing streak when he competes at the St Remy Challenger this week.

Since reaching the third round at Wimbledon, the British number four has endured a disastrous run of form which has put his place in Great Britain's squad for the Davis Cup semi-final with Australia in severe jeopardy.

It has been reported that Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans are in contention for a call-up to the team, but Ward will hope to show captain Leon Smith that he deserves a spot in the squad by impressing at the second-tier event in France.

Ward will play world number 430 Ilya Ivashka in the opening round.
