Rafael Nadal declares himself fit for Miami Open

Rafael Nadal declares himself fit to take part in this week's Miami Open, although he admits that he may not be fully prepared following another injury scare on Monday.

Rafael Nadal remains "confident" that he will be fit enough to take part at the Miami Open this week, despite turning his ankle in training on Monday.

The Spaniard has been plagued by various injury issues over the past year, which forced him to miss the majority of the second half of last season.

Having spent an hour training on Tuesday afternoon, the world number three, who is not scheduled to play until the end of the week in Florida, has now moved to play down any fears of pulling out of another tournament.

"In the beginning, I thought that was going to be the end of the tournament," he is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "I am confident I'm going to be ready.

"It's for sure I'm going to be on court on Friday. The thing is, I don't know how well I'm going to be prepared for then. I hope to be ready. It's an important tournament for me."

Nadal has reached the final of the Miami Open on four occasions, although he has yet to lift the trophy.
