Rafael Nadal has admitted that he found it "difficult" to perform on the blue clay court at the Madrid Open earlier today.
The world number two dropped just four games on his way to defeating Russia's Nikolay Davydenko.
Despite the victory, Nadal has revealed that he did not feel entirely comfortable on the highly controversial court.
"The court is not one that makes you feel comfortable," Nadal told reporters. "The court is a difficult court, it's very slippery and it makes supporting movements and getting back to defend very tough.
"The only thing we can do now is turn the page and we are not going to get the red courts back tomorrow so we have to adapt to the blue courts and the conditions as well as possible and hope for a change next year."
World number one Novak Djokovic has also criticised the playing conditions in the Spanish capital over the past 24 hours.
