Andy Murray named BBC's Sports Personality of the Year

Andy Murray is named as the winner of the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award.

Andy Murray has been named as the winner of the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year award for 2015.

The 28-year-old world number two picked up the honour after a season in which he led Great Britain to their first Davis Cup victory since 1936 and reached the final of the Australian Open, as well as the semi-finals of the French Open and Wimbledon.

"Thank you very much. I genuinely didn't prepare anything. I didn't expect this," Murray said after collecting the gong. "I dedicate my life to this sport. I work every day of my life and work as hard as I can to try to make you all proud, so thank you all for the votes."

Rugby league-turned-union star Kevin Sinfield was named as the runner-up after the public vote while Jessica Ennis-Hill finished third at the ceremony at Belfast's SSE Arena.

Other nominees on the shortlist included Mo Farah, Chris Froome, Tyson Fury, Lewis Hamilton, Adam Peaty, Greg Rutherford, Max Whitlock, Lizzie Arminstead and Lucy Bronze.

Murray previously claimed the SPOTY title in 2013 after he became the first Briton to win at Wimbledon in 77 years.
