Roger Federer reminds Bernard Tomic that breaking into the top 10 is a big ask.

World number two Roger Federer has urged young Australian Bernard Tomic to remain patient in his attempt to break into the top 10.

Tomic won his first title in Saturday's Sydney Open final and has revealed that he intends to break into the top 10 in 2013.

Federer, however, has insisted that it is easier said that done.

"I think we should go step-by-step, see how it goes," Sky Sports News quotes Federer as saying.

"Let's speak in a year's time. Everybody wants to jump from 60 to 10 in a year. But it's hard to do. Ten is a big ask.

"Don't forget how tough the top 10 players are right now."

Tomic moved from 64th to 43rd in the world with his maiden title.
