Jo Wilfried-Tsonga too strong for errant Sam Querrey

Jo Wilfried-Tsonga battles past Sam Querrey 7-6(6) 6-0 in the second round of the Italian Open in Rome.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga reached the second round of the Italian Open by overcoming America's Sam Querrey in straight sets this afternoon.

The duo both started strongly on serve but then traded two breaks of serve each, so a tie-break was needed to decide the opener.

Querrey made the first mini-break to go 4-2 in front, but Tsonga was soon back on serve and came through 8-6 to take the lead.

Failing to claim the first set seemed to knock the wind out of Querrey, whose level dropped in the second as Tsonga stormed to a 7-6(6) 6-0 score in under half an hour.

The world number 14 will be up against Belgium's David Goffin in the last 32.
