Simona Halep overcomes Madison Keys in three

Simona Halep has booked her spot in the third round of the Italian Open following a 5-7 6-0 6-1 victory over USA's Madison Keys.

Both players exchanged breaks in the early stages of the first set, but it was Keys that secured a decisive second break at 5-5 before serving it out to move ahead in the match.

Halep responded in style, however, breaking Keys three times on her way to claiming the second set 6-0 in just under 30 minutes.

It was a similar story in the third and final set, with Halep securing two breaks of serve before serving it out to triumph in the second round.

Halep has risen from world number 64 to world number five in just one year.
