Kei Nishikori advances to the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells by defeating Fernando Verdasco in three sets on Monday afternoon.

Kei Nishikori has advanced to the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells by defeating Fernando Verdasco in three sets this afternoon.

Neither player let slip in the first set as it went to a tie-break, where the Spaniard missed a set point at 6-5 but went on to edge his opponent with a forehand.

Nishikori then stormed back by claiming the second set 6-1, before defeating Verdasco 6-4 in the final set to claim the match.

The world number four will take on the winner of the match between Feliciano Lopez and Pablo Cuevas in the fourth round.
