Federer delighted with Indian Wells triumph

Newly crowned BNP Paribas Open champion Roger Federer has said that he "couldn't be happier" following his success at Indian Wells.

The Swiss overcame John Isner 7-6[7] 6-3 in the final to claim his third title of the year.

Victory means Federer has now equalled Rafael Nadal's record of 19 Masters 1000 titles.

"It's been a tough tournament for all of the players with a lot of sickness," said Federer, referring to a viral infection that forced eight players to withdraw in the first week.

"I'm happy I survived the early rounds to give myself a chance. I couldn't be happier."

It was the fourth time that the world number three has won at Indian Wells, having last triumphed in 2006.
