Maria Sharapova sees off battling Canadian Eugenie Bouchard to reach the third round of the French Open.

Maria Sharapova has moved into the third round of the French Open after resuming after Thursday night's rain delay to beat Eugenie Bouchard.

Sharapova went straight after the Canadian's serve and managed an immediate break point, which was well defended by Bouchard.

However, on her very next service game Bouchard was broken and could not find her way back into the set with Sharapova taking it 6-2.

The second set was much tighter despite Bouchard being broken in the third game again, as this time she fought back immediately to break back.

However, she could not hold the break to go ahead in the set and Sharapova was able to hold her remaining service games to take the second and the match.
