Kyle Edmund storms through to French Open main draw

British number four Kyle Edmund qualifies for the main draw of the French Open with an impressive 6-1 6-4 victory over Adrian Menendez-Maceiras.

Kyle Edmund has recorded a straight-sets win over Adrian Menendez-Maceiras to earn a place in the main draw of the French Open.

The British number four recorded a 6-1 6-4 triumph against the world number 113 to back up his previous wins over Gerald Melzer and Victor Hanescu.

The 20-year-old had been expected to face his toughest challenge of the week against the 12th seed, but he barely took a backwards step throughout the 62-minute contest.

Two breaks of serve were enough for him to run away with the opening set, before he quickly established a 4-0 advantage in the second.

Menendez-Maceiras managed to reduce the score to 5-4, but Edmund kept his composure to serve the match out to love to progress through to his second major of the year.

The world number 121 will play 35-year-old Frenchman Stephane Robert, who reached the last 16 of the 2014 Australian Open, in the first round.
