Kei Nishikori suffers early French Open exit

Kei Nishikori suffers a surprise first-round defeat at the French Open against Martin Klizan.

Kei Nishikori has suffered a surprise first-round defeat at the French Open against world number 59 Martin Klizan.

The Japanese ninth seed lost a tight opening set 7-4 in a tie-break, but it was thoroughly one sided in the second as Klizan came through 6-1 in just 28 minutes.

Nishikori, who is coached by former French Open champion Michael Chang, failed to recover in the third before his Slovakian opponent sealed the straight-sets victory 6-2.

Klizan will now take on Dutchman Robin Haase for a place in round three in Paris.
