Petra Kvitova has sailed into the second round of the French Open with a 6-1 6-2 victory over Ashleigh Barty.
The number four seed cruised through the opening set without much challenge from her Australian opponent, who could only clinch one game on the board in Paris.
The second set was closer in terms of chances as both competitors managed to hold their serve well and maintain control of the clay court.
Despite Barty's composure, it was Kvitova who made the breakthrough and snatched a vital break of serve to give her an advantage midway through the second set.
While Barty tried to force through a third set, Kvitova proved too much for the Australian and was successful in clinching a spot in the second round.
