Johanna Konta beaten by Julia Goerges in first round of French Open

Britain's Johanna Konta is knocked out of the French Open in the first round, suffering a straight-sets defeat to Julia Goerges.

Britain's Johanna Konta has failed to progress further than the first round of the French Open, suffering a straight-sets defeat to Julia Goerges in Paris on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old, who reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January, was beaten comfortably 6-2 6-3 by the world number 57.

Games went by the way of serve early in the first set, but Goerges swung the match in her direction by going a break up and taking a 3-1 lead.

The 27-year-old German clinched the opening set with a break point, and she was comfortable in the second as Konta struggled to launch a comeback.

Goerges broke the Brit's serve on her fourth opportunity before seeing it out to book a place in the second round of the Grand Slam.
