Ana Ivanovic battles through to French Open quarter-finals

Former champion Ana Ivanovic beats Ekaterina Makarova in three sets to reach the French Open quarter-finals.

Former champion Ana Ivanovic has battled into the quarter-finals of the French Open thanks to a three-set triumph over Ekaterina Makarova.

The Serb took a rain-affected opening set 7-5 before world number nine Makarova levelled things up by claiming the second 6-3.

However, world number seven Ivanovic showed her clinical side in the decider, breaking the Russian three times on her way to closing out the match 7-5 3-6 6-1.

Ivanovic will now meet Ukraine's 19th seed Elina Svitolina for a place in the last four at Roland Garros.
