Heavy rain forces day nine of French Open to be abandoned

Play abandoned at French Open due to rain

Day nine of the French Open has been called off by organisers due to heavy rain hitting Paris.

Top seeds Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams were due to play today, but their matches have now been pushed into Tuesday, when the remaining fourth-round fixtures will be concluded.

Play was initially delayed this morning before being officially called off at 12.45pm UK time, making it the first time in 16 years that an entire day's play has been cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Djokovic has been rescheduled to face Roberto Bautista Agut on Court Philippe Chatrier at 10am tomorrow, and Williams will follow to take on Elina Svitolina.

Andy Murray, who won his fourth-round match over John Isner yesterday, will play his quarter-final clash against Richard Gasquet on the same court no earlier than 1pm.
