Kyle Edmund says that he is taking the added pressure of being British number one in his stride.

Kyle Edmund has declared that he can handle the pressure of playing at the French Open as British number one.

A string of impressive performances has seen the tournament's 16th seed climb above the injured Andy Murray in the domestic rankings due in part to the Scot's lack of time on the court.

Edmund, who defeated Alex de Minaur of Australia 6-4 6-2 6-3 in the first round at Roland Garros, said that he is taking the added attention his ranking draws in his stride.

"The way it has gone with Andy obviously not playing very much and me becoming British number one, there is just a bit more attention, media, maybe a bit more expectation from people," BBC Sport quotes Edmund as saying.

"But that's just part of the territory with sport.

"There has been a little bit more buzz around the matches, nothing complicated. It's not like it's my first time at a Grand Slam so you know what to expect."

Edmund will take on Hungary's Marton Fucsovics in round two at the French Open.
