Samantha Stosur coasts into Cincinnati quarter-final

Samantha Stosur has strolled into the quarter-final of the Cincinnati after brushing aside Ekaterina Makarova in the third round.

The defending US Open champion put in a dominant performance to defeat the Russian in straight sets.

Stosur was unstoppable in the first set, with her opponent unable to hold her serve for a score of 6-1. The second was more of a contest, but Australian barely looked troubled as she took it 6-3.

Stosur will take on Venus Williams for a place in the last four.
