Result: Maria Sharapova eases past Anastasia Rodionova

Maria Sharapova has booked her place in the third round of the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The three-time Grand Slam winner faced Australian Anastasia Rodionova, an opponent that she beat 6-0 6-3 at their last meeting at the 2007 Australian Open.

Sharapova was unassailable in the first set, allowing her opponent to hold just one service game as she won 6-1 in 25 minutes.

Although world number 113 Rodionova managed to break serve twice in the second set, she held only once and handed Sharapova a 6-1 6-3 victory.

The Russian, who has won at Rome and come second at Miami and Wimbledon so far this season, will now play either Svetlana Kuznetsova or Petra Cetkovska.
