Johanna Konta makes progress at Cincinnati Open

British number one Johanna Konta is through to the last 16 of the Cincinnati Open with a comfortable win over qualifier Donna Vekic.

Johanna Konta has secured a place in the last 16 of the Cincinnati Open with a straight-sets win over Donna Vekic.

The British number one was playing in her first match since reaching the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games but she showed few signs of tiredness as she eased past the qualifier.

Despite struggling behind her own serve, Konta broke three times to take the opening set and a single break was enough in the second as she wrapped up a 6-2 6-3 victory.

Konta will face either Agnieszka Radwanska or Andrea Petkovic for a place in the last eight.
