Angelique Kerber has defeated Alisa Kleybanova in straight sets to book her place in the third round of the Western & Southern Open.

The German ninth seed edged a close first set by taking a tie-break 5-3, but the second was more comprehensive for her.

Kerber defeated Kleybanova over three sets in the only previous meeting between the two, which took place five years ago.
