Mardy Fish makes quarter-finals in Cincinnati

Mardy Fish has made the last eight of the Cincinnati Masters with a straight sets 7-5 7-5 win against Richard Gasquet.

There was little to seperate the two opponents in the first, but Fish managed to break the Frenchman late on to take the set 7-5.

The second played out similarly to the first, with both players holding serve, until the American broke again after it looked as if it was going to a tie break.

Fish will face Rafael Nadal in the quarter-finals after the world number two beat fellow countryman Fernando Verdasco in a tight three set contest.
