Juan Martin del Potro defeats Jeremy Chardy in straight sets

Juan Martin Del Potro reaches the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open with a straight-sets win over Jeremy Chardy.

Juan Martin del Potro has claimed a spot in the semi-finals of the Cincinnati Open after a strong 6-1 6-3 win over Jeremy Chardy.

The Argentina pro, who claimed a bronze medal at the London Olympic Games this summer, stormed through the first set by grabbing the opening break and maintaining his dominance, leaving Chardy with just one game on the board.

The second set went by the way of serve in the initial stages of the contest but once again Del Portro kept his forehand controlled to execute some sweeping shots across the court to take the break.

While Chardy tried to hold his serve and showed glimpses of a fightback, it wasn't enough to upset the Argentinian, who secured his place in the semi-final.
